Founded in 1947 in Chicago by Sigmund H. Danziger, Homak Manufacturing originally specialized in steel kitchen cabinets. However, in the 1960s, the company expanded its product range to include a separate line of hardware products such as toolboxes, tool cabinets, and other accessories. This hardware line gained traction and became popular in many major retail outlets at that time.

After Sigmund's passing in 1979, his wife, Gertrude, took over as the head of the company for the next 25 years. Under her leadership, Homak diversified its product offerings to include automotive, hospital, and sporting goods. In January 2005, Homak was acquired by JVA and relocated its headquarters to western Pennsylvania, now situated in the Wampum Underground Commerce Center.

Today, Homak places a strong emphasis on tool storage and gun cabinet security.
